Opie Sills

Opie Rudolph Sills, 96, of Paducah passed away on August 7, 2011. She was born on October 29, 1914.

Opie was preceded in death by her father, William R. Curry; her mother, Belle Miles Curry; two sisters, Mavis Curry Boren and Lona Curry Sullivan; one daughter, Letha Bouland Byrd; one son, Lennis Dale Bouland; and two husbands, Horace Rudolph and Ila Sills.

She is survived by one stepson, Ralph (Dorothy) Sills; six grandchildren, Pat (Mike) Owen, Dale Byrd, Chris Bouland, Keith Bouland, Kevin Bouland, and Deanna Stephens; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Opie was employed for 2 years at Montgomery Ward in Jackson, Tenn., and then for a few years at Sears Roebuck & Co. in Paducah. She was then employed at Western Baptist Hospital. For a brief time she took a leave from Western Baptist to privately nurse Mr. Luther Carson for three years in his home. After his death, she returned to Western Baptist Hospital and completed her employment of twenty years. Opie worked the last fourteen years at Western Baptist in the Newborn Nursery Department, from which she retired. She was a member of Central Church of Christ.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Roth Funeral Chapel, with Jim Faughn officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
