Martha Barker

June 2, 1926 — September 8, 2014

Martha Jean Smith Barker, 88, of Paducah, KY passed away at 8:00 a.m. Monday, September 08, 2014 at Superior Care Home. Martha worked for Stein Brothers and Boyce Investment Brokerage for many years and was the co-owner of Roth Funeral Chapel. She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church where she had served as Sunday School Superintendent and was a former member of the choir. Martha was the past president of the Women's Club of Paducah and served as Governess of the First District Federation of Women's Clubs, 2nd Vice-President of the Kentucky Federation of Women's Club and as an Aide to the President of the Kentucky Women's Club. She was a charter member of the American Business Women's Association, Paducah Chapter and the Paducah Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and later State President of that organization.

Martha is survived by her husband of 68 years, John G. Barker of Paducah, KY; sister, Annie Lura "Tootsie" Auen of Paducah, KY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Q. L. Smith and Nonie Upshaw Smith and two sisters. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Joe Beal and Dr. David Comperry officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
