Joseph "Joe" Dawes, Sr. age 86 of Symsonia, passed away at 11:35 am on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at his home. Mr. Dawes was a lifetime member of the UFCW local 227. He was a member of the American Legion for 37 years and he was a Korean Veteran in the Army serving from 1950 to 1952. He was a member of the Moose Lodge for 48 years. He was employed for 34 years with A&P Groceries where he retired from. He was a driver for P.A.T.S. for 18 years.
He is survived by four sons, Joseph Paul Dawes, Jr. of Symsonia, Dwight Elder of Symsonia, Dwain Elder of Benton, Clyde Elder of Memphis; two daughters, Kathy J. Dawes of Symsonia, Jo Pat Clark of Benton; one sister, Jean Thomason of West Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Charles Dawes of Live Oak, FL; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen E. Dawes; parents, Ephriam Pennington and Lola Victoria Dawes; one brother, Toby Dawes.
A funeral service will be held at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah Tuesday, February 3, 2015 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 12:00 pm.
