Jane Harton

January 20, 1928 — January 13, 2016

She was born on January 20, 1928 in Paducah, the youngest of eight children and was
preceded in death by her parents, Lula and W. R. Osborne, Sr. three brothers and four sisters, and
her husband, Nolan C. Harton, Jr. Jane attended Lone Oak High School and was a life-long resident
of Paducah and Lone Oak. She stayed at home to raise her two children, then joined her husband
in owning and operating Osborne Lumberteria for nearly 25 years.
Music was always an integral part of Jane's life, and as a young adult she became the pianist at
Lone Oak First Baptist Church. Ultimately, she became the church organist and served in that
capacity for decades. Along the way she served in missions, co-led youth discipleship groups, and
took many trips to Ridgecrest. During some of those years she sang in the first female Barbershop
Quartet in the state, "The Kentucky Babes."
Nolan and Jane were founding members of the Paducah chapter of the Ground Observer Corps, an
integral part of post WW2 U.S. national defense. Jane served for years in the Hospital Auxiliary at
Western Baptist Hospital, including service as president of the organization. She was known for
her compassion, her business savvy, and her love of church and family.
One of her favorite past-times was travel, including, at age 83, a missions trip to Morocco with
friends from Lone Oak First Baptist Church and to the Holy Land at age 84 with her daughter and
son-in-law.
She is survived by one sister, Sue Bone, of Livermore, CA. a son, Dr. Mike Harton, a retired
graduate school dean (Raylene) from Richmond, VA; daughter, Lisa Ann Cattanach (Bob), a
professional music teacher in Prairie Village, KS; five grown grandchildren, Lauren Alissa
Cattanach, Lindsey Anne Cattanach, Shannon Michael Harton, Cory Rhea Harton and Brian Nolan
Harton; and four great granddaughters.
Visitation will be at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner and Orr Funeral Home from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday,
January 17, with memorial service at 11 AM Monday, January 18, in the sanctuary of Lone Oak
First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery, Paducah.
The family would like to express special appreciation to Jane's nephew, Jim Osborne, close friends
Juwanda Beyer, David Smith, and nurse Nesa Qualls for their kind, compassionate and constant
attention to Jane which no doubt helped her to live within a week of her 88th birthday.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the local missions fund of Lone Oak First
Baptist Church, 3601 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, Ky. 42003.
