Obituary for James F. Weller

James F. Weller, 93, of Rio Verde, AZ, passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.

Mr. Weller was born in Zeigler, IL on June 28, 1922. He was of the Christian faith and an avid golfer. He was a past president at Jackson County Country Club, a former member of Union Hills Country Club, and a present member of Tonto Verde Country Club. He was also a member of the VFW, a member of the Elks lodge in Carbondale, IL, and also a shriner. At the age of 23 he started Wellers Inc. with his father, Frank Weller. He was a successful business man and retired after 52 years.

On August 8, 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He completed Army Air Force Pilot Training at Fort Sumner, New Mexico on January 6, 1944. He commissioned as an Army Officer, Second Lieutenant, on January 7, 1944 and attended advance pilot training. In January of 1945, he began wartime overseas service in the European Theatre of operations. He participated in the battles of Central Europe, Rhineland, and Ardennes, as a pilot flying paratroopers and supplies during combat missions. He was awarded the Air Medal, Eame Theatre medal, with three bronze stars, the American Theatre medal, and the Victory medal. He was released from active duty as a first lieutenant on May 20, 1946. He continued his service in the Air Force Reserve until September 28, 1957, during which he was recalled to active duty during the Korean War as an Air Force Pilot.

Mr. Weller was a proud member of the greatest generation; living through the great depression, fighting in WWII, Korean War, and becoming a successful business man later in life. He loved golf, traveling to Scotland to play some of the greatest courses as well as numerous in the United States. He was honored by parks and recreation for his donation of his entire inventory after retirement.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Piper Weller; granddaughter, Melodee Trendler of CA; two step-daughters, Tammie Edwards and husband Mark of Ledbetter, KY, Tina McMahan and husband Tom of Lexington, KY; four step-grandchildren; and one step-great granddaughter. Other survivors include two sons; Jim and Larry Weller and their families.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Weller, and one step-grandson, Ryan Allen Edwards.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Linda Creason officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah, KY.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time of 11:00 am on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
