Hal Cole, 99, of Paducah, passed away at 10:15 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at his residence at Gaither Suites at West Park in Paducah. A native of Calloway County, Hal was born January 13, 1914.
Has was a member of Twelve Oaks Baptist Church and enjoyed worshipping His Lord and Savior through song most of his life. Hal was a retired captain of Paducah Police Department of which he served proudly for thirty years. Hal then went on to serve as a McCracken County Deputy Sheriff for eight years and then as McCracken County Sheriff for four years. Hal came out of retirement for a third time and served as a Paducah City Commissioner for two terms. Hal was also a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #15.
He is survived by a son, Hal Anthony Cole and wife Vickie of Kevil; a daughter, Patsy Cole of Alton, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Lee S. Cole, Madelyn J. Cole, Max Hal Butler, Pam Everett, Debbie Conway, Patrick Butler, David Feig; and stepgrandchildren Jackson (Bridget) Stokes; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Mildred Roper Cole beloved mother to Anthony and grandmother (Mimi) to Lee and Maddie; his parents, Obediah (Boss) Cole and Cora Mae Scaggs Cole; three sisters, Nita Gipson, Chettie Nell Fields Gregory and Beva Mitchell; and four brothers, Dewey Cole, Fred Cole, Ted Cole and Tommy Cole.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Brandt Lyon officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah. Friends may call from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
