Evelyn Womble

Evelyn "Bill" McClure Womble, 97, of Paducah, died Tuesday evening at her home.

She was born April 15, 1914 in Paducah to the late E.K. and Annie Josephine Fondaw Brewer. She had worked in the licensing department at the McCracken County Courthouse and in the cafeterias of Paducah Public School System. For 25 years and until it's closing, Evelyn was the accounts receivable manager for Wallerstein's. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Flower gardening, sewing and handiwork, and keeping an immaculate yard were her favorite hobbies. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren, but in recent years her great-grandchildren gave her tremendous joy.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Smith Holt and husband Taz of Calvert City, and Betty Jo Brian Stryker of Paducah; four grandchildren, William Russell Brian, Bard Kevin Brian, Craig Guthrie, and Mike Guthrie; seven great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Judy Hopwood and Janet Roper; and stepgrandchildren, Christy Hopwood and Cary Hopwood.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell McClure; her second husband, Ralph Womble; a daughter, Jianna McClure Guthrie; a grandson, Brian Ray Smith; a stepgrandson, Nick Roper; five sisters; four brothers; and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Jerry Jeffords officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
