METROPOLIS, Ill. - Donald L. LaFond, 73, of Metropolis, Ill., formerly of Albuquerque, N.M., went to be with God May 10, 2013, at home with his loving family and caregivers at his side.
He was in the US Navy and retired from United Airlines.
He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara LaFond; sisters, Shirley (Owens) and Richard Kotter of Brookport, Ill., and Delores (Owens) Taylor of Metropolis, Ill.; brothers, Wesley and Flora Owens and Stanley and Debbie Owens, all of Brookport, Ill.; five nieces; 11 nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Jennie (Cordes) Owens; his father, Clifford LaFond; his brother-in-law, Donald Taylor; and a nephew, Timothy Taylor.
Don like to golf, play guitar, and spending time with his family. He loved teaching young people to play guitar. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Aikins-Farmer Brookport Funeral Home. Bro. David Kotter will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery with military rites.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Aikins-Farmer Brookport Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
