BETTY JEAN WHITFIELD

(June 06, 1938 - August 04, 2015 )

Betty Jean Whitfield, 77, of Paducah, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2015, 11:22 pm, at Baptist Health Paducah.

She was a member of St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she served in the Senior Choir, Culinary Staff Director, Trustee and the Mildred Allen Senter Missionary Society. Betty was a retiree of Baptist Health Paducah, from the dietary department for 27 years. A graduate of West Kentucky
Vocational-Technical School she received certification in commercial foods and cosmetology and Paducah Community College where she received her Associates Degree.

She was a member of the Interdenominational Union Choir, The Master's Chef, volunteer for The Quilt Museum, volunteer for the W.C. Young Community Center and member of the West Kentucky
Alumni Association Paducah Chapter.

Betty is survived by three sons, Derthrick Taylor of Peoria, AZ, Chuck Townsley and Teddy Townsley, both of Paducah; three daughters, Wanda Jones Scott of San Antonio, TX , Ginger Sandusky and Alice Taylor , both of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Laura Hickenbottom of Chicago, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Taylor and Irene McEwen Taylor Whitfield, one brother and one sister.

Funeral service will be conducted Monday, August 10, 2015, 12:00 Noon, at St. James Christian Methodist Episcopal Church with Reverend Michael Reid and Reverend Martha Granger officiating. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church on Sunday, August 9,
2015, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and again on Monday from 11:00 am until the funeral hour.

Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
