Betty Bond, 81, of Paducah passed away at 5:20 p.m. on Monday afternoon, December 31st, 2012, at Western Baptist Hospital after a brief illness.
Betty was the daughter of O.W. Bryant and Daisye Breeland Bryant. Born on December 27, 1931, in Magnolia, Mississippi, she moved to Paducah at a young age. A graduate of Tilghman High and of McComb Infirmary School of Nursing who earned her nursing degree from Charity Hospital, New Orleans, she retired from her career as a Registered Nurse at Western Baptist Hospital in 1993.
Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Bobby J. (B.J.) Bond; her daughter; Debra Shears and husband Charles of Paducah; her sons, Mark Bond of Carlisle, Ky., and Matthew Bond and wife Sarah of Paducah; four grandchildren, Jennifer Shears-Teixeira, Amanda Shears-Eisner, Breeland Bond and Matthew Bond, and three great-grandchildren, Emmalee Eisner, Riley Teixeira and Merrit Teixeira; her older sister, Peggy Bullock of Tylertown, Mississippi, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Olin Bryant.
Although several small strokes and a battle with cancer had slowed her in recent years, she never lost her sharp mind and mischievous sense of humor. "Mrs. Bond" was always greeted with warmth and affection by former co-workers at Western Baptist Hospital. People often stopped and thanked her for her kind and compassionate care of them or their family members while they were hospitalized.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is greatly missed and fondly remembered.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4th, 2013, at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Bond will be held Thursday evening, January 3rd, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
