Bert Owen Jr

Rev. Bert L. Owen Jr., 77, of Louisville and formerly of Paducah died January 30, 2012, in Louisville, Ky.

Rev. Owen served fifty-six years as a Cumberland Presbyterian minister, serving churches in Louisville, Ky., Nashville, Tenn., and Paducah, Ky. He was elected to the church's highest elected position as Moderator of the General Assembly in 2002, served as the Executive Director of Church Growth, a member of multiple boards including the Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home in Denton, Texas. He was a graduate of Memphis Theological Seminary and a member of the Covenant Presbytery.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-eight years, Patty (Pat) Parker Owen; one daughter, Becky Syme (Jim); son-in-law, Paul Wilkerson; one brother, Bobby Owen (Alma); six grandchildren, Chris Syme (Ellen), Dana Syme, Melissa Schmitt (Ben), James Wilkerson (Beth), Patrick Wilkerson and Joshua Wilkerson; and six grandchildren, Jessica, Olivia, Parker, Jackson, Madelyn and Tate.

Preceding in death are one daughter, Jacqueline Wilkerson; parents, Bert Louis Owen Sr. and Eleanor Beatrice Rogers Owen; one sister, Mary Lana Fowler.

Services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Dr. J. David Hester, Revs. John Lovelace and Wendell Ordway officiating. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
